Attempting to encounter 'the fictive self ' this personal pronoun, this I or i if you prefer has it seems to me, been the object of and possibly the central theme of enlightenment philosophy.

A notional, a fictional stability resides in the idea of the western subject the personal pronoun apparently guaranteeing an absolute autonomy and authority of the individual.

The installation I fictions aspect aspect provides a 'deconstructive' encounter or encounters with this fictive self. The viewer enters into an indefinable dark space via a light trap. Floating in the center of this space is a three dimensional capital I, constructed from cotton gymp and lit subtly with a blue light.
The 'object' appears to be vibrating and to be the source of the light.
this work is related to a text based work one evening in the winter of 68 written in 1991

The floating object and apparent lack of boundaries in the space combine to destabilize the viewer subjects ability to situate itself within the space.
The only reference points in the space, must be negotiated that is the object the personal pronoun, that is the viewer subject/s, other and other subjects negotiating the work.
