Attempting to encounter 'the fictive self ' this personal pronoun, this
I or i if you prefer has it seems to me, been the object of and possibly
the central theme of enlightenment philosophy.
A notional, a fictional stability resides in the idea of the western
subject the personal pronoun apparently guaranteeing an absolute autonomy
and authority of the individual.
The
installation I fictions aspect aspect provides a 'deconstructive' encounter
or encounters with this fictive self.The viewer enters into an indefinable
dark space via a light trap. Floating in the center of this space is
a three dimensional capital I, constructed from cotton gymp
and lit subtly with a blue light.
The 'object' appears to be vibrating and to be the source of the light.

in the winter of 68 written in 1991
The
floating object and apparent lack of boundaries in the space combine
to destabilize the viewer subjects ability to situate itself within
the space.
The only reference points in the space, must be negotiated that is the
object the personal pronoun, that is the viewer subject/s, other and
other subjects negotiating the work.
